Katy Weather is a privately owned weather station and operates as a public service for the Texas Gulf region including the cities of Katy and Houston. Our instruments are centrally located between Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties in SE Texas. Our station ID’s are CW3863 and KTXKATY5
We are proud to use RainWise professional meteorological instruments and Virtual Weather Station software for our primary weather data acquisition and display. Our lightning detection system incorporates Boltek lightning detection hardware and Astrogenic NexStorm software. We have multiple servers and a dedicated high speed, commercial Internet connection.
Data from our instruments is transmitted in real time directly to our servers, is formatted and made instantly available on our web site. At 5 minute intervals, the RAW data is transmitted to various other weather organizations aiding in collaboration among National Centers and WFOs to ensure consistent forecasts. You can also view our data on the NWS, Ambient Weather, CWOP, Weather For You and the Ham weather sites.

Our weather instruments and data collection electronics are equipped with battery backup for extended run times and we operate 3 servers for high reliability and redundancy. Our servers also have battery backup capabilities allowing extended run times.
